CACOSH Training

CACOSH shares its expertise in health and safety with union workers and the unorganized, through training programs and through Service Requests. For example during past years, CACOSH has presented the following programs:

  • Workers' Memorial Day program on globalization issues
  • "OSHA in your Workplace" program
  • Various workshops for the immigrant and welfare-to-work populations
  • Workers' Compensation seminars for workers hurt on the job

Since 2001, CACOSH has worked to re-establish contacts within the labor community, and received requests for several workshops, including:

  • "Health and Safety Tools for Union Organizers," in conjunction with the Chicago Federation of Labor
  • Workers' Compensation seminar with a Steelworkers Local
  • "Protecting Yourself Against Hearing Loss" for the Railroad Engineers
  • "Ergonomics" with Steelworkers Local 2154
  • "Basic Health and Safety" and "Forming a Health and Safety Committee" for a newly formed local of AFSCME

CACOSH Director Emanuel Blackwell is currently offering the following classes:

  • Worker and union roles in safety and health
  • Identifying hazards in the workplace
  • Health and safety rights of workers and their unions
  • Record keeping for injuries in the workplace
  • Effective safety and health committees
  • Asbestos awareness
  • Scaffolding work
  • General safety awareness
  • Workers compensation rights
