Vulnerable Workers Project

The Vulnerable Worker Project was a five-year effort funded through a partnership with the National COSH Network to improve Health and Safety conditions for underserved groups of volnerable workers. This included teens, immigrants and refugees, "contingent" workers, workers of color, and low-income workers. The overall goals were to aid vulnerable workers groups by:

  • Providing training and technical assistance to vulnerable workers
  • Increasing the utilization of COSH and OSHA Health and Safety resources by vulnerable workers and groups
  • Assisting OSHA local/regional offices in improving their capacities to reach vulnerable workers and groups

The implementation plan for this project included aggresively taking the message of Workers' Rights into the Latino community through community organizations, churches, and ESL classes, as well as collaboration with the Day Labor Organizing Project.

Current Status

This current status on this project needs to be determined. It is likely that this project is somewhat dormant due to expiration of funding, but could be restarted and the network of connections reestablished, and new connections made with current active organizations such as the Latino Union/Albany Park Work Center. This would require the input of funding and time commitment.
